My teacher’s teaching style looks to be very affective. She breaks up the class time extremely well. She mixes lectures, with worksheets and group activities. This helps to keep the students interested and not bore them to death. With the use of power it is really given to the person that is talking. It seems that the students don’t raise their hands to talk, but they understand respect and that only one person talks at a time. Sometimes she has to put students in their place when they get out of line with this. In one of the classes the students started to scream a bunch of nonsense out and she had to tell him to shut his mouth. I can tell this does vary among the different classes. Some classes she is quick with tell the students to be quite while others she will let them talk a little more because she knows that they wont take advantage of this. With most of her classes she ends about 5 min early. She starts when the bell rings and goes until about five min left.

When I look at the way she distributes power in the classroom, it works for her but I think I will use it differently. I will try to be a little sterner with the students. I have seen a few times where students take advantage and really get far off task. Also I asked her about ending the class early and her reasoning for it that a lot of her students never have a break. Some don’t have physical education and with the type of rotating scheduling the students have 20 min for lunch. She says that a lot of the students get burned out so the five min that she gives them really help, and also the students know that she normally end early so they seem to work hard for the whole class knowing that they will have 5 min to themselves at the end. On this subject I’m a little torn. The reasoning behind it is very good but also that time adds up and within a whole school year that a lot of time. It’s about two hours a month that you waste. In my classroom I will try to use my time as efficient as I can.
